11 april: insight into voluteer work

Vrijwilligersacademie Amsterdam organises a meeting specifically for refugees and for volunteers, professionals, students, politicians who work with refugees, and who want to think about the changing society and wish to explore the meaning of caring for eachother.

In a workshop we want to investigate new ways of thinking about care for each other. This approach will lead to see refugees not only as people that need care, but also can provide care. In this workshop we’re going to explore voluntary work for refugees. What does it mean? And what kind of work is possible?

Babah Tarawally was a refugee himself and had to deal with an asylum for over 7 years. Now he is a writer and journalist, with a new book coming soon. During his time in the asylum centre, by doing voluntary work, he got a change to see a other way of living in the Netherlands. Together with Renate Schepen he will explore the meaning of voluntary work, cultural differences and the possibilities. Karin Scheurs from Present Amsterdam will give an insight in the experiences from fugitives in voluntary work, as she will also invite refugees working as volunteers. Also she can connects people to volunteer organisations.

The volunteer academy (Vrijwilligersacademie) is based in het heart of Amsterdam and will facilitate this workshop. This meeting is on 11 April from 15.00 until 17.00 on the Keizersgracht 340-342 in Amsterdam. Afterwards there will be a small bite and a drink. You can sign up here or via info@vrijwilligersacademie.net. The travel to and from the ‘Vrijwilligersacademie’ will be paid for.

This meeting will be in English, however if you know anybody that can speak your language he is welcome to translate.
